 10. Ghost of Tsushima

  • Developer: Sucker Punch Productions
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: TBD
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Set in 1274 Tsushima Island, the game puts players into the role of Jin Sakai, the last samurai who is fighting against the Mongol invasion within Japan. Being outnumbered and trained traditionally, the only way players will have a chance at overturning the odds is by learning the new fighting style known as the way of the Ghost. This will be a third-person video game that has a focus on being stealthy when traversing the open world and taking out the Mongol hostiles that are scattered around.

It’s worth venturing out into the open world as the game does feature a variety of side quests, but at the moment details are still a bit scarce. Currently, Ghost of Tsushima is releasing exclusively on the PlayStation 4, but there is no specific release date at the time of writing this so we’re holding out hope that we’ll see it launch into the market within 2020.

9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1, PS5, XSX
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Assassin’s Creed fans have been waiting patiently for a new installment to release from Ubisoft. The video game development studio opted to hold off from releasing a new installment in 2019 so after its year break we were introduced to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The video game is the next installment to the franchise in which players will be taking the role of Evior, a Viking that is seemingly being pushed by the Templar Order. We’re still early into the game announcement stage so not a ton of information has been released.

With that said, we are coming off of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey one of the largest games from the franchise and we’re expecting this installment to be just as large. Set in 873 AD, the game will put players into Norway and medieval England. We know that there will be four kingdoms available and likely a ton of interesting locations to explore. Traveling will apparently be on foot along with naval longship’s similar to the travel we had in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but again, we’re still waiting for a bit more information to come out on the game to really see just how much of an open world we’ll have to explore.

This game also is slated for the end of 2020 for current and next-generation video game consoles. As a result, there could be a chance that this gets pushed into 2021. At any rate, we’ll simply have to keep a close eye and see just what all the development studio opts to bring with this next thrilling Assassin’s Creed installment.

8. Skull & Bones

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: Online Only 4 Players
  • Competitive Multiplayer: Yes

We’ve been waiting for Ubisoft to drop Skull & Bones for a good while now. The video game has been delayed for a couple of years now, but there is a push to get it out in 2020. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, Skull & Bones is an upcoming open-world naval warfare game. Players take on the role of a pirate captain who sets off into the open seas in search of treasure and loots to steal. From the footage shown so far, Ubisoft is opting to give players a strategic game as well as not only will you have to deal with other pirates but government ships.

One of the examples Ubisoft has shown when it comes to Skull & Bones is that players can attempt to fool an opposing ship by raising their flags. Likewise, you’ll have to make note of the landmasses as you can make use of cover from land or attempt to cut off an enemy around an island.

7. Dying Light 2

  • Developer: Techland
  • Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: Online Only 4 Players
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

Dying Light 2 was unveiled during E3 2018 where we are once again tossed into the zombie apocalyptic world and forced to fight for survival. Players will be in a new city location where factions are at a constant battle to retain control of the area. However, the developers are giving players more freedom as they can choose to go down a variety of pathways though they will all have their own particular consequences.

Just as before, this is an open world game that will allow players to traverse freely. You’ll have to battle the undead if you choose to leave beyond the city walls, but it seems that life inside the walls is not always safe either. Set fifteen years after the events of the original title, Dying Light 2 will still retain the same hostile zombie creatures though they will continue to be lethargic during the day and more aggressive at night.

6.  Cyberpunk 2077

  • Developer: CD Projekt Red
  • Publisher: CD Projekt Red
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: April 16, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: Post-launch

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a highly anticipated video game title from development studio CD Projekt Red. The same folks that brought out the successful RPG series, The Witcher, is bringing out a futuristic open-world dystopia for players to enjoy. In this game, players will be taking on the role of a mercenary that relies on street cred to get new jobs and offers from different companies. Also, a large part of this game is focused on choices and allowing the players to determine the best way in their opinion to handle the situation at hand.

This game is also set in an open world environment and it’s quite lived in. From the footage shown off so far, there appears to be plenty of NPCs going through their own daily routine and likewise, the city itself will be filled with buildings that players can enter. In my opinion, we’ve only scraped the surface so far as to what all we can expect from this in-game world such as the augmentations you can acquire, the gangs you’ll run into and the random events that will be playing out on any given street. With so much hype building up from this title, we’re holding onto hope that the famed development studio can deliver a fun and thrilling game to enjoy for hours on end.

5. Halo Infinite

  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
  • Platforms: PC, XBO, Project Scarlett
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: TBA
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

After the release of Halo 5: Guardians we’re finally going to receive our next new installment with Master Chief. Known as Halo Infinite, the developers are hoping to give players a more in-depth storyline to follow but right now we don’t have much information to go off on. During E3 2019 we got a small trailer that showcased Master Chief being rescued only to return into the fight, but more information is said to debut during E3 2020.

We can expect the same FPS style of gameplay, but there is one potential change up with the game and that we may see a more open world setup. Now the comments can be taken out of context from the development studio but there does appear to make this game bigger than the past game with more areas to explore. We’re tossing this one as a bonus title as we’re cautious as to if this game will be really all that open but then again, we haven’t seen the game all that much to deny the rumors that’s been circulating online for this game.

  • Release: TBA
  • Co-op: TBA
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

After years of dealing with releases of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda made the announcement at E3 2018 that the next iteration of the franchise is in development. The problem here is that we have practically no information at all about the game. Bethesda didn’t offer any details but instead stated that the next installment to The Elder Scrolls franchise will be a next-generation game and will release after their newest upcoming IP, Starfield. It’s likely that this game won’t release in 2020 but crazier things have happened. Likewise, it’s highly unlikely the title will launch on current generation platforms, outside of PC, as Bethesda has spoken of both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI is a next-generation title. If by chance this RPG hits into the market this year we’ll update this post with new information.

1. God of War 4

What can we say about God of War that you probably are not already fully aware of? The video game franchise got its start back in the days of the PlayStation 2 and is still going strong today. However, this title, in particular, is more of a soft reboot to the franchise.

If you’re familiar with the past installments, this time around Kratos has ended his time with Greek mythology and has since moved onto Norse mythology. Likewise, Kratos will not be alone anymore as he will be looking over his son named Atreus, preparing him for the real world after the recent passing of his mother.
